Rooms dedicated to 5 major Mayan Gods

  • Yum Kaax

    [jum ka-ash]
Lord of wild vegetation and guardian of its animals.

Yum Kaax was considered one of the most important deities in the Maya pantheon and was used to help those who hunted for their food.

  • Yumil Kaxob

    [jum-il ka-ash’ob}
Lord of the crop and agricultural vegetation.

Yumil Kaxob not only owned the crop, he was IN the crop. There was no separating Yumil Kaxob from the corn (or maize) that he was the master over.

  • Chaac

    [chäk]
Lord of the rain, cenotes, seas, storms with thunder and lightning.

He is often represented holding jade axes and snakes that he uses to throw at the clouds to produce rain.

  • Ix Chel

    [EE-shell]
Patroness of the moon, love, gestation, medicine, and the textile arts.

She was often represented accompanied by a rabbit. The rabbit is a symbol of fertility and a nod to the lunar landscape.

  • Itzamna

    [Eetz-am-NAH ]
    Lord of the sun.

Itzamna was the principal Mayan deity, ruler of heaven, day, and night.

Itzamná appears as a cultural hero who gave the Maya the foundations of civilization. An active creator god, he was the creator of humankind

We wish it weren’t so, but this property has many steps and stairs.
